Planning as an Act of Love: A Free 21-Day Email Course

A free 21-day email course for people who carry a lot and want their planning to feel grounded, realistic, and worth the effort.

This course walks you through the foundational ideas behind everything we do at The Commonplace Company — one short lesson at a time, every few days, at whatever pace fits your life. By the end, you'll have a clearer picture of the season you're in, a more honest sense of what you're managing, and a simple planning routine that's built around your real life instead of an ideal one.

You're already doing the work. This helps you do it with more support.

Most people who find their way here are already carrying a lot of invisible planning work: the appointments, the paperwork, the "what happens if something happens to us" conversations, the mental load of keeping everyone's lives running.

This course doesn't ask you to add more to that list. It asks you to look at what's already there — and start building a more grounded, sustainable way to manage it.

That's what planning as an act of love actually looks like in practice.

What you'll work through over 21 days

The course follows the same sequence we believe in here: know yourself before you organize yourself. Here's where you'll end up by the end.

  • A clearer picture of the season of life you're actually in right now
  • An honest account of your real capacity, your constraints, and the invisible work you're already managing
  • A simple, grounded planning routine you can realistically keep up with
  • A gentle starting point for longer-term planning and "what's next" decisions
  • A starting set of tools and templates that fits your life, not someone else's system

How the course works

Every three days, you'll get one short email with a focused prompt or exercise. Most take about 10 to 15 minutes. Some are reflective. Some are practical. All of them are designed to be done in a real life, not an idealized one.

You can work through them in a notebook, a document, or whatever tool you already use. There's no app to download, no community you're required to join, and no catching up to do if life gets in the way for a few days.

You can follow along quietly on your own, or share what you're working through if that's useful to you. Whatever feels right.

    Who this course is for

This course is a good fit if you:

    • Are carrying a significant amount of the planning and life management work in your household
    • Are navigating a transition — a move, a new season of caregiving, a health change, a shift in work or family life
    • Have tried planners and organization systems before and found that they didn't quite fit
    • Want planning to feel like care rather than performance
    • Are new to The Commonplace Company and want to understand how we think before investing in anything else

You don't need to already be good at planning. You just need to be willing to be honest about where you actually are.

What you need to get started

A notebook or a simple digital document you already use. Ten to fifteen minutes every few days. And a willingness to look honestly at your current season of life.

That's it. No specific planner required. No prior experience needed.

Ready for a more grounded way to manage what's next?
